Welcome to the Coconino County Libertarian Party WebsitePROPOSED STATE LEGISLATIVE AGENDA In the 2002 Congressional First District election the county had two candidates in a contested primary with nominee Ed Porr receiving 8% of the vote in the general election, the fourth highest vote total for a Libertarian Congressional candidate in the country. State election statute allows that any party with statewide status shall elect their Precinct Committeemen nominees at the primary, yet despite having statewide ballot status Coconino Libertarians were denied the use of the primary election in 2002. Coconino Libertarians, along with Cochise County Libertarians successfully sued in state court to settle this question for all county Libertarian parties in Arizona. The interim officers are currently preparing to present the Coconino County Board of Supervisors with the nominations for Precinct Committeemen. Supervisor Matt Ryan has agreed to present those nominations to the Board and assist in the finalizing of this long project. On September 26, 2003 Coconino County recognized the Libertarian Party as having fulfilled the petition requirements for recognition as a political party on the ballot in the Primary and General Elections for 2004. This was the culmination of much hard work by a dedicated group of activists who believe in the cause of freedom, and were willing to put their money and time where their hearts are. We are grateful to them. The first statutory meeting will be held as soon as Precinct Committeemen are recognized by the County Board of Supervisors. Formal county officer elections will be held, as well as election of state committeemen. At long last Coconino will have a formal vote in the running of the state party. |
